MA’s employs over 200 persons within the group which stretches through the entire manufacturing process.
MA’S purchases a coconut milk processing and canning facility. The facilities are modernized to meet the company’s strict food safety standards. MA’s begins to export coconut milk; both organic and conventional.
MA’s begins processing organic products under EU and JAS standards. MA’s also helps support 35 small scale farmers gain organic certification.
MA’s achieves Safe Quality Food 2000 &HACCP certified supplier status – a first in the Sri Lankan food industry.
RAPID (Regional Agri-Business and Perennial Crop Initiatives and Development) was launched by the company as a backward integration project strategically designed to discharge the company’s CSR agenda. During the same year the company purchases a 90 acre estate in Matale, an area renowned for spices, and immediately begins conversion to organic agricultural practices.
MA’s diversifies its product portfolio and begins manufacturing and marketing Pastas. This is a first on a commercial scale for in Sri Lanka.
During the same year the company launches a range of sauces under the brand Dad’s Garden.
The company opens its first marketing and administrative office in Colombo.
The company expands its product range by acquiring the Happy Home brand and launching pickle and chutney items.
MA’s opens its first outlet in Colombo – The Spice Club.
The ‘MA’s Village’ is constructed – a worker residential facility which includes single and family living facilities, a modern cafeteria, a staff laundry facility and a play ground.
MA’s was founded by Mario & Suzette De Alwis as a micro industry in Dambulla.
